What happens when you buy art?

”When you buy something from an artist you are buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing, you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul… a small piece of someone else’s life.” -Rebekah Joy Plett

Escape from reality

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller. That’s kind of what painting is about. Pouring your heart and soul into a canvas, bare and exposed for everyone to see. My paintings are not about realism, detail or perfection. They are about colour, emotions and expression. Every brush stroke is a cathartic healing process, an escape from reality and into peace ☮️

Life changing thoughts

“To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don’t grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float.” – Alan Watts. “No one is more dangerously insane than one who is sane all the time: he is like a steel bridge without flexibility, and the order of his life is rigid and brittle.” – Alan Watts. “We do not “come into” this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree.” – Alan Watts. “…tomorrow and plans for tomorrow can have no significance at all unless you are in full contact with the reality of the present, since it is in the present and only in the present that you live.” – Alan Watts

Alice In Wonderland- How An Aspiring Artist Can Relate

For some reason or another, lately I seemed to have regressed to listening to songs that were favourites of mine when I was a child (a time when I was usually found finger painting or sticking glitter to things with too much PVA glue- I can’t say much has changed).  Of course, the ever popular Disney featured pretty much exclusively in that little play list, which got me thinking about one story in particular- Alice In Wonderland.  I think that in a lot of ways Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland has a surprising relevance to how it feels to be an aspiring artist.  I should know, I am one. By this I do not mean that aspiring artists typically have the strange misfortune of literally falling down large and mysterious rabbit holes into fantasy worlds populated by hilarious anthropomorphic creatures.  That would be highly inconvenient.  I just mean that I can really relate to many of the popular quotes and themes from the story, and I would not be surprised if others shared my associations (aspiring …

Painting Happiness- A Snippet Of Inspiration

”There may be a great fire in our hearts, yet no one ever comes to warm himself at it, and the passers-by see only a wisp of smoke”- Vincent Van Gough Inspired by this thought, I set out with the intention of painting my vision of how happiness makes me feel in my latest piece ‘Each New Day’.  People always say that creativity is one of the best ways to express oneself, and that when an artist paints, they dip their paintbrush into their soul which ultimately shines through on the canvas.  With that in mind, I hope I have succeeded (even if only a little) in portraying feelings of happiness through my artwork.  “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” – Antoine de Saint Exupery   http://www.emilylouiseheard.com
